Apparently this tune was written about the Altamont Speedway incident in 1969. I think it’s a cool example of a product of tragedy being used bring as small amount of joy. Look at those people dancing and smiling. Everyone is so happy. This was recorded in the early fall of 1970. The next few years are regarded by many as being the best years for the Dead as a touring band.
